Weybridge Energy Committee

The energy committee meets every month (except July & August) on the second Friday of the month at the Weybridge Congregational Church at 8:30am. Please join us at any meeting!

Mission

The mission of the Weybridge Energy Committee is to provide the town and town residents opportunities and programs to reduce their energy consumption, save money, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and lower carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Since 2011 the committee has provided programs to all residents which include education, demonstrations, and, when available, access to financial incentives.

Recent Events

Weybridge Eco-Fair

The fifth annual Weybridge Eco-Fair was held on May 17, 2025, at the Weybridge Elementary School. Nearly a dozen EVs (both all-electric and hybrid) were displayed. People stopped by to exchange seeds and to try out an array of e-bikes and electric lawn and garden tools. Efficiency Vermont and Addison County Solid Waste District were also present with displays and information.

Energy Efficiency of Town Buildings

Work is continuing on energy efficiency measures in town buildings as recommended by the grant-funded professional energy assessments of our Town Clerk’s Office and the Fire Station/Town Garage. High efficiency LED lights have been installed in the town clerk’s office and are under consideration for the Fire Station/Town Garage.

Energy Education

  • Table displays at the Town Meeting on March 3 2025, and at the special town building meeting ion September 25, 2025.
  • On November 18 2025 the committee sponsored a webinar on how to plan a long-distance trip in an electric vehicle. There were 80 registrants from all over the state and beyond, with the majority coming from Weybridge and Middlebury

Collaboration with Climate Economy Action Center’s Energy Navigator Program

The Energy Navigator program offers free consultations with residents at all income levels on how to save money, be more comfortable in their homes, and reduce their carbon emissions. Eight home assessments were conducted in Weybridge during 2025. Steve Duclos and Spence Putnam were trained as navigators in early 2025, have done several Weybridge navigations, and welcome inquiries from anyone interested in more information on the program.

Installation of an Electric Vehicle Charger at the Weybridge School

Ground has been broken for the installation of an EV charging station at the elementary school. Largely funded by a state grant, the charging station will be networked with the Addison Central School District’s EV charging network. The station is scheduled to be operational in early 2026.

Past Projects

Investment in the Bristol Community Solar array - this investment produces approximately 50% of the town’s electricity usage.

Energy audits for the town office and town garage. We encouraged the town to allocate money to weatherize the entire building, including the installation of new insulated doors on the town garage.

Regional winner in the 2013 Efficiency Vermont Home Energy Challenge (the most homes weatherized per capita). We won $10,000 which we used to purchase and install a heat pump in the town office. We also purchased a heat pump hot water heater for the Weybridge School.

Composting educational campaign.
